Notes:

In 1892 Ernest and his brother John Swarthout were charged with murdering their father. John died of consumption before he could be tried, but his brother Earnest was charged, convicted of murder, and sentenced to 18 years in prison. In 1896 he died of consumption while imprisoned. His wife, Libbie, remained married to Earnest throught this ordeal, and, as reported in the newspapers, went to Lyndon to bury her husband in Feb 1896.¹

Notes:

George was a lieutenant junior grade in the US Navy, and a resident of Norfolk, Virginia, when he married Marguerite Haynsworth.¹

He was born in Erie, attended the Erie schools, then went on to Purdue University, where he received a B.A. in June 1959. From there he attended the University of Illinois, where he received an M.A. He taught at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, and served on a ship during the U.S. Naval blockage of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962.

After leaving the navy he joing the faculty of Ann Arundel Community College in Severna Park, Maryland, where he taught for 48 years, obtaining the rank of full professor.

He was survived by his wife, Marguerite, his daughters Mary (Mrs. Tom Javian) of Philidelphia, Pennsylvania, and Gwendolyn; and his brother, Warren Everett Wheelock, and sister-in-law, Barbara Fleming Wheelock, of Moline.²
